We have budgets, plans, filed all nonprofit 501 c3 paperwork and have begun working on various projects. We will be holding two small conferences with DARPA's help to get large companies like Google and Microsoft and Yahoo etc to assist in the effort to heighten anonymity on the web.. Which would do much for the censored and oppressed abroad (but also allow whistleblowing scientists to more safely communicate with us) IARPA-- a little known institution-- has also been meeting with us and wants to work collaboratively. There are various govt and other efforts to anonymize (scientist) communications and we're in the midst of this. So far, I have not spent a moment fundraising.. And need to get this thing funded.. And intend to hire a nice talented person I know to waste her time— not mine-- on that side of things. I am discussing our program, goals, and mission with several generous befactor types, and expect the best... With only elegant arm-twisting. But Dept Homeland Security has me "crashing" on a project to create a national "311" social network response to the oil spill... This is for my friend who heads science and technology. (And I think you would find what I'm doing fun in the extreme... Just visited my NYC emergency management pals yesterday and am pulling together many groups... This system will let the public report on the oil spill ... Which will add meaningful geographic data to the response... Be useful in the effort to quantify the BP cost.. And would force responders to be held accountable for their efforts in the cleanup. There will also be a "how to volunteer portion, which would allow better coordination of such efforts. But the main value of this is to create a permanent method to allow direct mappable communication between the masses and the various govt agencies who need to provide services in a more managed way. This is a ridiculous understated list of some things I'm working on... I left off a mess of interesting consulting projects which are worthy of discussion and fun. My summer is: Fire Island for recreation thru July... In August a 4 day participation making and launching fireworks at the Fireworks Guild Convention (no kidding)... Dealing with the foundation, the DHS stuff, and helping .akerfaire do an event in NY with some of our Gadgetoff buddies on Sept 25th weekend....
