Subject: Palm Trees from California
Randy does not believe the palm trees he would get in California would do well in a tropical
environment as you can see what he wrote below:
"Being as honest as I can be I think those trees are a very poor choice for LSJ. With
that said I think to be able to make the statement those trees will make in a landscape
they are hard to beat. The reason I do not like them is they are a desert tree they like
dry arid soil. LSJ has wet clay soil. You also have to worry about fungus bugs and salt
intrusion. If you guys are happy with the four that are on the island already I wouldn't
worry about it. They need to be planted in clean sand and a spray program needs to
be started right away. They also need to be handled with alot of care when being
planted because the heart of the palm can be knocked loose very easily. I think they
are on a steady decline as soon as they are installed in a tropical landscape."
