From: jeffrey E. <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, June 19, 2015 10:16 AM To: Joscha Bach Subject: Re: think more of specialization, the effiec=envy of the group goes up as each memeber only needs to know one job, =A0 intellignece might mean being able to do more than on= job, . I also think that intelligence , or =ome sort of knolwedge might form an economic system. . e=change, valuble info.. brains are like banks stores values. =C2 lends or gives some of it currency to others in the form of useful i=fo. etc On Fri, Jun 19, 2015 at 2:45 AM, Joscha Bach «= href="mailto target="_blank" > wrote: This is fascin=ting. Could we get a quantitative measure on the cost of individual brains= with respect to resource consumption and quality control? The former woul= be mostly brain size, i.e. how hard it is to feed it, but also how long i= takes to develop and train it. The latter would apply to individual diffe=ences in intelligence etc. with roughly the same brain size. Insect societies should be special, because the absence of individual chanc=s for reproduction removes evolutionary competition between them. Individu=l intelligence benefits the other members, too. In social species where ev=ry individual has a chance of reproduction, individual intelligence in add=tion gives an edge over competitors in the same population. Why would mob =ule encourage lower intelligence in individuals? We still have competition=among the mobsters, so there is always an evolutionary pressure towards hi=her intelligence. Intelligence is a tool for many uses, it may be used for abstract problem s=lving or for power. The latter might imply that being too intelligent is d=ngerous. If an individual is powerful, it might benefit from getting rid o= competition, especially smarter but currently less powerful potential riv=ls. In a species with social dominance hierarchies, it might be a survival=advantage for the vast majority to be either less smart than the ones in p=wer, or to be smart and totally disinterested in power. It is tempting to =onder if that could explain nerds, i.e. people with high intelligence but =ow social skills and little interest in dominance. > Am 18.06.2015 um 06:23 schrieb jeffrey E. <[email protected] <mailto:[email protected]»: > http://www.sciencedaily.com/releas=s/2015/06/150616215956.htm <http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/06/150616215956.h=m> seems that as populatio=s grow, indiv intelligence might go down , as mob =ule becomes the norm. Gas a speed measure . might also =ssume that it takes 2 men with iq of something less than 100 to accomplish=the same task in the same time as an iindiv with an q of lets say 100. > -- > please note > The information contained in this communication is > confidential, may be attorney-client privileged, may > constitute inside information, and is intended only for EFTA_R1_01622319 EFTA02497403 > the use of the addressee.
