Received this email from the asylum =ffice.
They are treating it as a request to reschedule instead of an =beyance. (I did say/ask for abeyance and if not
then =eschedule).

Subject: RE: =escheduling of Asylum Interview For Case Ending in
Rescheduling of Asylum =nterview
Dear IRENE:
This letter refers to your Form 1-589, Application =or Asylum and for Withholding of Removal, filed with
U.S. =itizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
We received your correspondence dated 11/10/2017 requesting to =eschedule your asylum interview
on 11/14/2017.
This was your first request to reschedule =our asylum interview. Because you established "good =ause"
for your request to reschedule your asylum interview, we =re granting your request and will mail you a new interview
appointment =otice in the near future. Repeated requests to reschedule are =iscouraged. Repeated reschedules place a
significant burden on =he Asylum Office. The Asylum Office will not grant future =eschedule requests except where you
establish "good cause."=Good cause is defined as a "reasonable excuse for being unable =o appear for an asylum
interview." In reviewing whether there =s good cause to reschedule your interview, the Asylum Office considers =he
facts and circumstances of each case individually. Repeated requests =o reschedule are discouraged and may affect the
determination of good =ause.
Employment Authorization:
If you applied for asylum on or after =anuary 4, 1995, you are subject to a 150-day waiting period before
you =an apply for employment authorization, and an additional 30 days before =mployment authorization can be
approved, for a total of 180 days. =he number of days a completed asylum application is considered pending =oes not
include any delays requested or caused by you while your =pplication is pending with the Asylum Office or with an
immigration =udge. See Title 8, Code of Federal =egulations section 208.7. =his time period during which your asylum

application must be pending =ith USCIS and/or the Executive Office for Immigration Review before you =ay be granted
an employment authorization document (EAD) is called the =E2$4180-day asylum EAD clock."
Delays=requested or caused by you while your application is pending with the =sylum Office may
include:
•
a =equest to transfer your case to a new Asylum Office or interview =ocation, including when the
transfer is based on a new address;
•
a =equest to reschedule your interview for a later date;
•
failure to appear at your interview or fingerprint =ppointment;
•
failure to provide a competent interpreter at your =nterview;
•
a =equest to provide additional evidence after your interview; and
•
failure to receive and acknowledge your asylum decision in =erson (if required).
Your request to reschedule your interview is a delay =aused by you. We have stopped counting days
towards your 180-day =sylum EAD clock as a result. Your 180-day asylum EAD clock will =esume when you appear for
your rescheduled interview.
As of the date of this letter, =our asylum application was pending 874 days.
Sincerely,
For Susan Raufer
