I have joined a group around =sychiatrist/neuro-scientist Justin Brewer that tries to understand =hich parts of the brain and mind play a role for consciousness. I have =ot an intern to help me with programming a user interface to our =ognitive architecture, and I am thinking about building tangible neural =etworks for the Media Lab, so people can play around with artificial =eural networks and understand them without having a background in =omputer science. At PED, I am continuing some experiments with evolutionary simulation of =onreciprocal cooperation. One of my current interests is in understanding music cognition. I have =dentified a few dimensions that make music delectable (such as =sychophysically pleasurable patterns, abstract structure discovery, =rance induction, social side effects etc.) and check into how I can =odel music with grammars and predictive models. Reading Arbib's =xcellent new book (Music, Language and the Brain). Marvin has sent a short message, so I assume that he is alive and that =here is hope that I am going to meet him one of these days. Max Tegmark has invited me to a small conference with smart people on =he future of Al in San Juan, early next year, which is certainly going =o be fun. Thank you for making all of this possible!
