Re: thx
If you like recrea=ional math as well, here's one of my favorite puzzles about cooperativ= games:
There are two players, a referee and a st=ndard 8x8 chess board in a room. Each of the board's 64 squares is eit=er
empty or has a pebble on it (all pebbles identical) but other than that=the configuration is arbitrary. The players don't
know the configurati=n on the board, but can agree on a strategy beforehand. After agreeing on = strategy they will play
the following game.
The =eferee first takes the first player in the room, and points to a square of=referee's choosing on the chess board. The
first player must choose a =quare and flip its state (i.e. place a pebble on it if the square was empt=, or remove the
pebble if the square had one before). They both leave the =oom.
Afterwards, the second player and the re=eree enter the room. The second player must now identify the square refere=
originally pointed to. If his guess is correct, the players win, otherwis= they lose.
If the players knew the contents of t=e board beforehand, there would no puzzle (you'd just flip the square =eferee
pointed to). Surprisingly, there is a strategy that works no matter=the initial contents of the board!
