Ok.
Negative comments first.
; LS1 Carlos Rodriguez; Principal Principal;
1. Any I/O (onboard/outboard) drive sy=tem is a huge corrosion factory. These drives are not able to be trimmed o=t of
and are in the water 24/7 and are steadily being eaten despite any st=ps taken to lessen that fact.
2. There are going to be draft issues with t=is boat at the GSJ dock, especially the center, push unit. All the cooling=water
is brought aboard through the pickups in the outdrive and the sand g=nerated in low draft situations cause lots of wear
and tear. I will need to inspect the installation to co=firm that as this install may be different
3. It will haul crew and groceries, but litt=e else.
Positives.
1. These Volvo engines are old school. TAMD =1 or 42 models. Very much like the motor that was in the Down Under.
200 HP each at 3600 rpm. Excellent design an= can be rebuilt handily if necessary.
2. The outdrives are the best design availab=e for this kind of installation. Dual, counter-rotating propellers on each=unit
are very efficient and are long lasting in fresh water. (Far less so<=div> In salt water)
The hull will need a close exami=ation for corrosion. It looks robust in the pictures. The red paint on the=outdrives
concerns me. If it's a copper based antifouling paint, it's =othing but poison lipstick to hide the corrosion. The original
finish is long gone.
It is not an excellent choice but it's not=foolish either, excluding further examination.
