His presentation, titled Jeffrey Epstein and the Rights of His Victims, will center on his experience representing victims of billionaire sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. His work on the Epstein case spans more than a decade, and it was crucial to keeping it alive; ultimately, his work paved the way for new charges to be brought against Epstein in 2019. Brad Edwards, Jeffrey Epstein, and Victims' Rights EFTA00152513 In July 2019, billionaire sex offender Jeffrey Epstein was famously arrested on federal charges for sex trafficking of minors in Florida and New York. The criminal case against Epstein was closed in August, following his death. Brad Edwards has served as an attorney for multiple Epstein victims and has personally investigated the case for more than a decade. Brad's involvement with the Epstein case began in 2008. He provided legal representation to multiple girls who reported to Palm Beach, Florida, detectives that Epstein abused them. The case was referred to the FBI, and Epstein ultimately pleaded guilty in state court to charges of solicitation of prostitution and procurement of minors for prostitution after having entered into a non-prosecution agreement with federal prosecutors. The deal was kept secret from the victims and sealed until after it was approved by the judge. Dissatisfied with this result, Brad responded by filing a federal suit arguing that the prosecutors violated the Crime Victims' Rights Act when they failed to confer with or notify victims. In February 2019, after over 10 years of litigation, US District Court Judge Kenneth Marra ruled that the federal government violated the rights of Jeffrey Epstein's many victims when it failed to confer with the victims of Jeffrey Epstein prior to entering into the Non- Prosecution Agreement between the government and Epstein. I I EFTA00152514 While the prosecution of Epstein has been made impossible, the persistence of Brad Edwards and similar advocates made it possible for victims to speak before the court about the abuse they suffered by Epstein. Instead of issuing a written dismissal which would be typical the presiding judge asked prosecutors and defense lawyers to appear before the court so accusers could be heard. More than a dozen of Epstein's victims and their attorneys attended the hearing, and sixteen victims delivered statements. Brad Edwards called it, "a historic day for crime victims in the United States." Brad remains among the staunchest advocates for Epstein's victims. In media reporting, he has been credited with keeping the case alive and deemed an unspoken hero in the Jeffrey Epstein story. Alongside Brittany Henderson, Brad is currently in the process of litigating the next phase of that case to determine the remedy for the violation of the rights of the girls.
