OPA declined comment and neither confirmed nor denied an investigation. • Jeffrevpstein: OPA - The Financial Times and The Sun UK asked for comment about Prince Andrew's relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, whether he was going to be subpoenaed, and if we had a comment on the whereabouts of Epstein's partner Ghislaine Maxwell. OPA declined comment. • Keystone XL Pipeline: OPA - The Guardian asked for comment about the FBI's investigative authority in the Keystone XL Pipeline and preparations for potential demonstrations/protests or domestic terrorism investigations. OPA declined comment. • Server Offline: OPA - WIRED Magazine sought comment about a possible correlation between a security researcher's purported tip to the FBI about an exposed server and the server subsequently going offiine. OPA declined comment. • FBI Radio: OPA - "FBI, This Week" highlights the 20th anniversary of the creation of the Counterterrorism Division. Section Chief Antol, who was interviewed for the PSA, reflected on the milestone. Antol spoke about the evolution of the terrorism threat and the way the FBI has adapted its approach to combatting the top investigative priority since the 9/11 attacks. Local Stories • Baltimore - Division received multiple local and national media inquiries about the unsealing of the indictment charging the former Baltimore mayor with 11 counts of fraud, tax evasion and conspiracy. SAC participated in a news conference on Wednesday with the USAO-District of Maryland and IRS officials to announce the charges and again todi.ter the former mayors initial appearance in federal court where she pleaded guilty to the charges. SAC provided a quote for the USAO press release: "The people of Maryland expect elected officials to make decisions based on the public's best interests, not to abuse their EFTA00162587 office for personal gain. The indictment alleges that Catherine Pugh betrayed the public's trust. The FBI will continue to diligently work to detect fraud and corruption and hold those who violate this trust accountable." • Chicago - The local NBC station will air a story tonight about the FBI's sextortion campaign and that features an interview with SSA who leads the Division's Child Exploitation Task Force. • Chicago - A WGN-TV special report features an interview with PAO Johnson about a 2002 domestic terrorism case. The four-part series is called "Chasing Chaos" and focuses on man who called himself "Dr. Chaos." He was charged federally for hacking in to a utility power grid in Wisconsin and for storing cyanide underneath Chicago's public transit system. He was released earlier this year after serving 20 years. The series ran this week. The station also developed a four-part podcast on the case. • Cleveland - Issued a joint press release announcing a Mahoning County doctor was arrested this morning and charged by criminal complaint. The complaint, unsealed today, charged the doctor with allegedly issuing prescriptions for opioids and other controlled substances without a legitimate medical purpose, and for billing fraud. • Detroit - The Detroit Free Press interviewed SAC about a number of topics, including: his career prior to coming to Detroit, goals for Division; recruiting and diversity; investigative priorities throughout Michigan; community outreach efforts; and the ongoing Hoffa investigation. • Detroit - The Detroit Free Press interviewed ASAC about the ongoing Seven Mile Bloods prosecutions. The ASAC spoke about the gang problem in Detroit and the FBIs efforts to combat the problem using criminal RICO statutes. He also talked about the Violent Crime and Violent Gang Task Forces, and the importance of strong partnerships with state and local law enforcement agencies. • El Paso - SAC met with a Midland/Odessa Media outlet for an introductory roundtable discussion. SSRA and the Division PAO also attended. • Louisville - Local reporters attended the Bowling Green Rotary Club meeting during which SA the FBI's presence and the big role state and local partnerships play in the FBI's success. spoke • New Orleans - Division participated in a three-part television series addressin human trafficking in the metropolitan New Orleans area. The local NBC affiliate interviewed ASAC about how the FBI investigates human trafficking, provides victim services, and coordinates with the U.S. Attorney's Offices on prosecutions of the traffickers. • Pittsburgh - Received several inquiries from West Virginia media about a search in the Beckley area related to an ongoing FBI-led investigation. PAS issued a statement advising the FBI was conducting law enforcement activity in the area. • St. Louis - Local PBS 11/ interviewed SAS about protecting senior citizens from internet scams, in particular romance scams and being unwitting money mules. • Tampa - An Orlando TV station included the FBI's #StopSextortion campaign for a report today on fighting sextortion. SA took phone in questions during the afternoon broadcast, answering questions from viewers about sextortion and how to rotect children from online predators.
