I'm writing to request your assistance on a request made to us recently by the Policia de Investigaciones de Chile/PDI (Investigations Police of Chile) through its Office of International Operations. I can imagine you guys have received requests of information from many law enforcement agencies around the world on the Bureau's Jeffrey Epstein investigation (SOD-NY-3027571). Certainly, Chile has been very much interested in the provenance of the case and has requested from us any information that we may have with regards to any connection between Mr. Epstein and Chile. EFTA00173214 Although there is no current investigation in Chile on this matter, the authorities are very interested in knowing if there is any information developed through the FBI's investigation that may point to leads in Chile. I think the request is not atypical, as the Epstein investigation appears to have or point towards an international sphere. Sex crimes is a serious matter, but in Chile it resonates with a higher amplitude, as child pornography, human trafficking and sexual exploitation has grown in the last two to three years. As reference, I have attached the PDI Official request of information signed by their Director for International Operations— not quite an MLAT, but it calls our attention to their request. I will appreciate your assistance if you could please let me know if you have any information which you think may be of value to Chile, and if so, I will advise my foreign partners here in Chile to move forward with a MLAT, as a means to obtain our information.
