My journey with CAF began after the passing of my father Howard Stackman in 2004. From an early age my father taught me the importance and need of giving back. The values he instilled in me led to beginning of the Heroes Heart and Hope Gala in 2007. Over the last nine years we have raised over $11.2 million dollars to help challenged athletes succeed in the game of life. Just as importantly, we have built a family, a community and a new tradition of philanthropy that can be passed from one generation to the next. I think my father would be proud of our efforts and of your friendship, commitment and generous support, which have made all of this possible. This year I have agreed to serve as the event's Honoree to celebrate the 10th anniversary gala on June 8, 2016. At the event, we will salute inspirational challenged athletes and re-live their powerful moments of triumph, while recognizing individuals — like you — who have truly made this "A Decade of Difference." The funds raised at the gala have allowed CAF to fulfill 3,600 grant requests from worthy challenged athletes in the New York area and all over the world. But we are just scratching the surface. As 2016 is a Paralympic year — and for the first time, the Games will receive long-overdue coverage here in the United States on NBC — we anticipate that demand for the life-changing funding provided by CAF will increase substantially. This year I am counting on your support more than ever before. My goal is to ensure that 2016 will be the year that no grant goes unfunded.
