Landmark Hearing for addition to Mitchell Home at New York Overview: David and Jamie Mitchell wish to add a small 1000 square foot addition (apx) above their existing home, which they built. Previously, Landmarks Preservation Committee (LPC) approved a previous applicant of a two-story addition. The Mitchell's have only built one-story. Our building's Co-op and a number of our neighbors have submitted a letter in favor of the addition. However, we have one neighbor who is opposed and is anticipated to have speakers at the hearing to speak against our proposed addition; therefore, your support is very meaningful and needed. Process: At the public comment section of the presentation, the public is asked if they would like to speak. At this point, you can get up and in your own words, please state that you either work or live in the Upper East Side Historic District and you are speaking in favor of the project. Note: it would be helpful if you can say that you work in the design, architectural, engineering or visual field. Once finished, you can either sit and listen to the rest of the speakers or leave, as there will be no follow up questions from the Commission. Points to be made in your own words 1. The mock up that the applicant has constructed is not visible from the cross streets of The mock up is slightly visible when you walk blocks north on Madison Avenue and only visible from locations east of Park Avenue. 2. The small bit that is visible is no more visible than recently approved additions in the Upper East Side Historic District (11 East 68 Street, the Carlton House, among others). 3. The addition that the Mitchell's are proposing seems like an appropriate addition to the existing secondary structure on the 11th floor east elevation, back to a utility brick and enhances the existing structure. 4. The proposed yellow brick that matches the existing brickwork of the building is most complementary to the top of this important building versus what is up there now, industrial metal panels from ages ago. S. The proposed addition is lower than the existing water tower and elevator bulkhead and chimneys.
