Memorial Day Parade
Our baseball and softball teams are invited to march in the annual New Canaan Memorial Day
parade on Monday, May 26th, 2014.
Coaches and players should assemble at St. Mark's Church on Oenoke Ridge Road at 9:00 AM
in the church's lower parking lot. The line-of-march will be published in the May 22nd edition of
The New Canaan Advertiser. The parade will start promptly at 9:30 AM. Players should wear
their uniforms. Parents should drop off players in the Presbyterian Church parking lot across
from the Roger Sherman Inn. Coaches marching in the parade should park their cars in this lot.
Younger players should obviously not be left unattended and should be escorted to the location
where their team is assembled.
The theme of the parade is to remember with gratitude and honor the proud men and
women who have given their lives while serving in the US armed forces to protect and
preserve a life of freedom for all Americans.
The following highlighted parade guidelines must be observed in keeping with the theme:
Candy or other objects should not be thrown to those watching the parade.
No vehicles allowed. The police will be monitoring all groups and you may be asked to exit
if you have an unregistered vehicle. No exceptions.
You must remain in the Line of March. No one should stray.
Do not congregate at the end of the parade blocking the way for others. Marchers not
entering the cemetery for the memorial service should continue marching past the cemetery
down South Main Street so as not to impede the flow of units wishing to enter the cemetery.
I look forward to seeing you there.
