AT&T promised to support wifl calling with iOS 9's release last month, and now it's finally here. Any of our iPhone users on AT&T (or Sprint or T-Mobile) that have updated to iOS 9 can enable wifl calling from Settings > Phone Wifi Calling. This essentially negates the need for microcells, because if the phone is on WW1 and the AT&T signal is weak, calls will be placed and received over the will connection. There's no apparent difference to the user or whoever is on the other end. The only downside is that non-FaceTime calls can't be made from Macs, iPads or Apple Watch anymore -- which is something most people don't use anyway. MacRumors Wi-Fi Calling Now Available for AT&T Users AT&T has flipped the switch on Wi-Fi calling making it available to customers with eligible plans that are running iOS 9. Once the setup process is complete, customers are receiving notifications letting them know the Wi-Fi calling feature will be available after a short activation period.
