"Acquired savant syndrome" is a very rare condition where a normal person develops prodigy-level abilities
after a severe injury or disease ranging from musical, artistic, to even mathematical capabilities. In 2002, Jason
Padgett was attacked and left with severe concussions, however the concussions also turned him into a
mathematical genius who was able to visualize complex mathematical objects. Padgett, a furniture salesman who
was a self-described jock and partyer before the incident, had never progressed beyond pre-algebra and said "I
cheated on everything, and I never cracked a book". Now Padgett is an aspiring number theorist and is being
studied by neuroscientists to see if everyone has these dormant abilities that just haven't been tapped into. Only
15-25 cases of becoming an acquired savant have been described in medical cases.
