The Foundation for Medical Research in short.. . Created in 1947 by famous researchers, one of which was Prof. Jean Bernard. FONDATION RECHERCHE MEDICALE Recognized as Public Utility Fondation since 1965 - Being independent, it receives no French or European funding. Objective: contributes to the development of innovative and pioneering public research, and accelerates the advances in fighting against all illnesses. Support between 400 and 450 new research studies, which requires c45 million in funding each year. Through the force of its financial support and intimate knowledge of research requirements and priorities in public health, the Foundation works effectively to respond quickly to the needs of research teams. The Foundation supports research for all pathologies. It is involved in all areas of research: cancer, neurologi- cal, cardiovascular, and infectious diseases and promotes major advancements in health. DONOR GUARANTEE to have a significant impact on the fight against disease, and provide support to work that matches urgent public health issues. the possibility to choose the pathology and project to be financed. The Foundation does not carry out research. It selects and finances the most promising French research teams tat the INSERM, at the CNRS, at universities, in hos- pitals'. via a high-level scientific advisory board made up of researchers and doctors (30% of the 1.500 projects that are considered are eventually selected). the assurance of funding highly-promising research with excellence as the only criteria for selection. The Foundation oversees the progress of all of the work that it finances. The staff at the Foundation's Scientific Department carries out scientific and financial monitoring. follow-up on the impact of the donation; the possibility to meet with the researchers; information on research progress.
