Being independent, it receives no French or European funding.
Objective: contributes to the development of innovative
and pioneering public research, and accelerates the advances
in fighting against all illnesses.
Support between 400 and 450 new research studies, which
requires c45 million in funding each year.

A unique position at the core of research
The Foundation is a major actor in the field of medical
research.
Through the force of its financial support and intimate
knowledge of research requirements and priorities in
public health, the Foundation works effectively to respond
quickly to the needs of research teams.
The Foundation supports research for all pathologies.
It is involved in all areas of research: cancer, neurologi-
cal, cardiovascular, and infectious diseases and promotes
major advancements in health.

The Foundation does not carry out research.
It selects and finances the most promising French research
teams tat the INSERM, at the CNRS, at universities, in hos-

are considered are eventually selected).

• The measles vaccine:
the new anti-cancer weapon
At the Nantes-Angers Cancer Center Research,
INSERM Director of Research Marc Gregoire's team
is working on an inventive application of the measles
vaccine: treating a severe form of cancer caused by
exposure to asbestos.

• Alzheimer's Disease:
the hope for gene therapy
At the Atomic Energy Commission, INSERM Director
of Research Nathalie Cartier is fighting the progres-
sion of Alzheimer's Disease through gene therapy (a
method using genes and the information carried wit-
hin them to treat the disease'. Following convincing
results in mice, her team is preparing the move to
clinical trials.

• Cancer of the esophagus:
constructing biosynthetic esophagi

Jerome Larghero, in charge of the Cellular Therapy Bu-
siness Unit at Satin-Louis Hospital, and his team are wor-
king on creating esophageal segments through tissue
engineering. A world first, this technique could constitute
an attractive alternative to current procedures 'grafting
from the patient's stomach or from segments of their
colon), which today presents the risk of post-operative
complications or death.

Procedures and verification to insure you that your donation
will be put to good use:
certification of annual accounts by an independent Auditor,
sending all financial statements to all donors,
