MILLER KORZENIK SOMMERS RAYMAN LLP 488 MADISON AVENUE NEW YORK. NEW YORK RX)22-5702 212 234-6531 fax: 212 688-3996 ericOmksrlaw.com May Z 2016 Martin G. Weinberg 20 Park Plaza, Suite 1000 Boston, MA 02116 Reid H. Weingarten Steptoe & Johnson LLP 1330 Connecticut Avenue, NW Washin ton, DC 20036-1795 Dear Mr. Weinberg and Mr. Weingarten: Thank you for sending me copies of your recent April 21, 2016 letter addressed to Little, Brown & Company, and the December 3, 2015 letter addressed to Little, Brown by Mr. Weinberg. Carol Fein Ross, the General Counsel of Hachette Book Group (of which Little, Brown is a division) has advised me that to her knowledge no one at the company received the December 3"' letter. In addition, John Connolly and James Patterson have also confirmed that neither of them received a letter from Mr. Weinberg. A phone call or simple intend search of Little, Brown would have directed you to the Hachette Book Group and to Ms. Ross. Hachette Book Group moved out of Center Plaza, Boston, MA 02108 in September 2014. For six months thereafter, U.S. mail arriving at the Center Plaza address was forwarded to Hachette Book Group's proper address. Accordingly, any letter sent in December 2015 would not have been delivered and (presumably returned to sender and/or trackable if sent via certified mail). The simple fact is that the address on Mr. Weinberg's letter was erroneous, mail would not be accepted, and any attempted personal delivery would have been impossible. We respectfully decline your request for an advance copy of the current draft of the manuscript. We are confident that, in writing this book, the authors are relying on credible sources, and that they intend to publish a truthful and newsworthy book. As you know from your conversation with Mr. Connolly last December and again from Mr. Patterson's April 14, 2016 letter, the authors have sought to obtain information from Mr. Epstein directly. They have also interviewed and attempted to interview many friends and associates of Mr. Epstein. If Mr. Epstein is interested in the accuracy of the book, we would urge him to take the opportunity to be interviewed by the authors and present his version of events. To facilitate the process of obtaining the most accurate information for the book, the authors would be willing to submit areas of questioning to Mr. Epstein in advance, on the understanding that Mr. Epstein's interview take place within two weeks of its delivery. We hope Mr. Epstein will agree to this opportunity. For your records, Ms. Ross's address is: Carol Fein Ross, Esq. General Counsel and Executive Vice President Hachette Book Group, Inc. 1290 Avenue of the Americas New York, NY 10104 I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, A/1 Eric Ra 2 EFTA00601524
