label it bears.

The top is made from two pieces of
open-grained spruce.. The-back-is
inade from two pieces of quarter-cut
maple with a deep narrow lively flame. The ribs and original
scroll are from matching stock. The varnish is golden orange in
color.
The cello is an attractive example of the maker's work and is in
excellent condition.

Son and pupil of A. Constructed first violin in 8th year. Born at Ferrara, 1877.
Cremona; masters variously emphasised in superb modelling, completely entitled
to the highest commendation. Not only are the designs pictures- qua, but in masterly
handling of varnish he succeeded in realising the aesthetic spirit after wht.th so
many have aspired and failed. Perfection of pose enhances neat carving of scroll.
Sound-holes distinguished by like admirable qualities. Studiously careful Pontine
artistry. Golden-yellow and golden-red shades of varnish. 1nstrwnents mastiff,.
comb, exemplifying the principles which haw been determined by the t remonese
us the canons of art. Recipient of gold medals at Turin and Brussels. First prize-
winner at the competition organised by the Saint-Cecilia Academy Administration,
Rome, 1923. Honoured with a knighthood, 1925. Died trapevty, 1928. Labels
all with decorative bonier. L200, 1960.

Worked at Mittcnwald, 1750. Ordinary modelling of Bavarian school. Medium
arching of pretty graduation. Rather thin in wood which has been abr./Sallied.
Inside work very untidy. Soft tonal quality but rather weak. L20. 1925.

Worked at Liese, 1800.1810. Constructively ordinary. Workmuship the same.
Varnish throws a little gleam of sunshine over excellent wood. Tonal quality
quite pleasing.

Excellent modelling of various old Italians. Very effective golden-yellow varnish.

Born 1752. Worked at Modena. Died 1810. Two models, one slightly arched
somewhat reminding of a Gusdagnini. and one of higher arching and loam
body length. Effective graduating of plates with a nice suggesUrm of Amatl
grooving which gives the edging a slight tilt. Porn Mg very slender and thread-like.
Scroll of smallish dimensions, but of very graceful swing and deeply at. BURY
wood generally of medium grain. strong in fibre. Usually two-plea backs of dose-
figured material. ENO ribs. Goldsnorenp varnish with a touch of red—supple
and trensparent, also a golden amber tending towards brown. Tonal quality
moderately powerful. very silvery and clear, and of matured mellowness. One
specimen, dated 1790, realised 1,200 dollars In the U.S.A., 1928.
