From: Intelligence Squared <info®intelligencesquared.com> To: j [email protected]> Subject: Is the UK Facing a Political Identity Crisis? Last Few Tickets Remaining Date: Wed, 06 Sep 2017 12:56:41 +0000 inetugence - Thronvato to a menu Ara. view ttt utuwser IIw The Great Realignment Weds 13th Sept, 7pm, Emmanuel Centre Speakers It was 'back to school' for our MPs yesterday as they returned to Parliament after the summer break. Next week, Intelligence Squared brings to our stage a stellar panel of senior MPs and expert commentators to examine the current state of UK politics. As power has migrated to the more hardline elements of the two main parties, where does that leave the millions of centrist voters who are feeling politically homeless? And how will the country deal with the new alignments of metropolitan liberals versus the 'left behinds', graduates versus the uneducated, the young against the old, which revealed themselves so clearly in the vote for Brexit? Coming to our stage to delve into these issues and bring us the insiders' perspectives will be Ken Clarke, the most senior Conservative voice in Parliament; Hilary Benn. Labour MP and Chair of the Brexit Select Committee: and Helen Lewis. deputy editor at the New Statesman and prominent voice on the left. Alongside them will be David Goodhart, author of one of the most talked about analyses of post-Brexit Britain, and Anand Menon, a leading academic thinker on Britain's fractious relations with the EU. In the chair will be Stephen Sackur, one of the BBC's most highly regarded journalistic heavyweights. Looming over the current turmoil is the biggest question of all: What kind of Britain do we want to live in? What are the values that should hold together our society? Come to the Emmanuel Centre on September 13th and hear the country's most senior politicians and original thinkers discuss the new political realities. G. Hilary Benn Senior Labour Party MP representing Leeds Central. who has served in various Labour cabinets and shadow cabinets since 2003, most recently as shadow foreign secretary.
