MAY 03, 2012
This week's projects will make your head spin — or, at the very least, your dishware.
Check out a line of bowls that are easy to rock but impossible to spill, an indie
musician on a mission to make her biggest album yet, and a photographic
meditation on our musical southern roots.

Put a spin on it
Wobble Bowls were designed to bring a little
bit of fun to your dining table. They're a series
of round-bottomed, brightly colored all-purpose
bowls that are easy to set in motion — watch
'em rock and twirl! — but they never spill.
Whether you're accident-prone or just like to
play with your food, these nifty guys are fun
and totally functional. Your morning cereal will
never be the same again.

You might already know Amanda Palmer from
her stint with indie-cabaret act The Dresden
Dolls, her marriage to author Neil Gaiman, or
any number of her exploits as a piano-
playing, ukulele-wielding, creativity-inspiring
indie star. Her latest release, anticipated by
eager fans for years, will be a multimedia
explosion of collaborative art featuring
contributors like Tao Lin, Shepard Fairey,
and Robyn Hitchcock. When you're Amanda
Freakin' Palmer, you go big or go home.

A Southern state of mind
In 2010, Shane Lavalette was commissioned
by the High Museum of Art in Atlanta to create
a new body of photographs for their "Picturing
the South" series. Having grown up listening to
traditional Southern music, he decided the
region's vibrant musical past would be the ideal
lens through which to explore its current
cultural landscape. The resulting series of
photographs is as spirited and poignant as the
sounds that inspired it.
