From: "Aitken, Lee" ala> To: "MIMa alMe Subject: Jeffrey Epstein prosecution Date: Thu, 24 Mar 2011 16:44:39 +0000 Dear Mr. Black: The Daily Beast has received a letter from former US attorney Alex Accosta describing the negotiations that resulted in Jeffrey Epstein's plea agreement on charges of sexually abusing underage girls. We plan to publish this letter in its entirety, appended to our own story about the Non Prosecution Agreement. In his letter, Accosta, who oversaw the negotiations, reports that as part of an unusually aggressive defense, the team of lawyers hired by Mr. Epstein, of which you were one, did the following : *Negotiated in bad faith, agreeing to terms then turning around and appealing this agreement to the Department of Justice in Washington, *Investigated the personal lives of the prosecutors, including personal details about their families, and used this information in an attempt to discredit and disqualify two prosecutors — an attempt that failed. *Threatened Accosta that his « excessive zeal » in prosecuting a man simply because he was rich could become the subject of a book. If you would like to contest or comment on any of these statements, we need to hear from you by end of business today. We plan to post our story at 8 p.m. Thanks for your time and prompt response, Lee Aitken EFTA00664159
