However, since they said yes in Jan they have not yet managed to make it to England to meet Roger Penrose. They are working on finding a date. For Penrose Institute, I asked them for $800,000 feasibility, $10m start-up and then $100m. Same envelope that Allen Institute got. Then we would go for NIH NSF Templeton etc. and then they might fund further in the same way as Paul Allen. For Cengine we asked for £5m and indicated that we wanted around £1.5m to get started straight away. At the time we talked with Horizons did not have the consciousness probe idea worked out but that would be another similar start-up. The institute generates a lot of practical ideas for companies. Other sources for the Institute. Mani Bhaumik (meeting late March and a big fan of Roger Penrose) Jacobs Family (meeting their CTO today for social event) Have also pitched via a friend to Baidu. I have a longer list of people who are being warmed up. On Venture Capital side for Cengine I would do a seed round with Angels and raise £1.5m first raise. Because Horizons said yes, I have not pushed this forward as fast as I should, but I will meet the English angels that funded Truphone next week and the following week. (No particular reason why one is in £ and the other $ other than most of the Angel investors I know are UK based.)
