From: MARK TRAMO To: Barney Schllin er Cc: "Smith, Judi" Bcc: [email protected] Subject: To Prof Schlinger re: Course Proposal - Cognitive Neuroscience of Music A&B Date: Sun, 08 Oct 2017 22:45:35 +0000 Attachments: DrTramo.Syllabus.CogNSciMusic.AY2018-9.WinterAndSpringQuarters.docx Greetings, Barney - Please find attached a draft of a proposal for a multi-school multi-departmental course for 50 students, "Cognitive Neuroscience of Music". Your ideas re: course organization and size with both full-class lectures and smaller-group seminars were invaluable in building the proposed structure, for which I am most grateful. The dates of lectures, seminars, and final exams correspond to the Registrar's calendar for the Winter and Spring Quarters of the 2018-2019 Academic Year. At our lunch I underestimated the amount of time doing that would take, and I apologize for getting this to you a week later than I had anticipated. I endeavored to list days-of-the- week and meeting times that mirror other upper division lecture courses and, hopefully, fit well with typical student schedules. Of course, the meeting times are placeholders that can bemodified to avoid conflicts with other courses offered by your department, Stephanie's Program for Neuroscience, and Drs Miller and Knowlton's Psychology programs. This two-quarter adaptation of the "Music Mind & Brain" Advanced Topics Seminar Dan Neuman and Tim Rice brought to the Alpert School of Music in 2010 includes all the topics covered in the original semester-long course I taught to Harvard undergraduates in the Mind Brain & Behavior Interfaculty Initiative in 1998-2009 - and a bit more, including material from the Auditory Neurobiology lecture course sponsored by the Harvard Biology Dept for graduate and undergraduate students in 2008-9. The attached file is in MS Word .docx format so you can edit as you wish - I look forward to your comments. I will also forward the proposal to Stephanie for comments and modifications.
