From: MARK TRAMO To: "Neuman, Dan" <[email protected]> Bee: [email protected] Subject: Re: Symposium etc Date: Thu, 09 Apr 2015 22:55:23 +0000 Thanks for your replies, Dan - Yes, it would be great to lunch with Dean Sork and you one Wed or Thurs this quarter - here is the link to the program she shepherded. Given the relevance to Symposium planning and scheduling pressures, the sooner the better - Gratefully, Mark http://newsroom.ucla.edukeleases/ucla-opens-new-staglin-family-music-festival-center-for-brain-and- behavioral-health On Thu, Apr 9, 2015 at 2:40 PM, Neuman, Dan < wrote: Please see below Mark. From: Mark Tramo < > Date: Thursday, April 9, 2015 at 1:40 PM To: Daniel Neuman Subject: Symposium e c Thank you for lunch with Tom Sturges yesterday, Dan - that was special having Give Davis here last night....updates and questions re: UC Intercampus Symposium on Music in relation to Brain Science, Medicine, and Education: 1. spoke with John Mazziotta last week - he'd be willing to say a few words to kick off Symposium from Med School side if available - suggested Gene Block as a backup if he can't make it and said Block has championed intercampus inter school initiatives. Should I or you or Vivek ask Block to say a few opening words about the importance of marrying the art and sciences in undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate research and education? Napolitano is watching and we are reaching out via Public Affairs to the LA Times and SF Chronicle. If you draft something for me, I'll ask Gene, 2. Would you be willing to represent Music and make some opening remarks at the Symposium? Sure, assuming I am in town. What's the date? EFTA00670588 3. The timing of the Symposium is still being worked out. My colleagues want August, the student clubs and other faculty the Fall Term. What do you think? Are you here in mid-August? Is anyone here in mid-August? (LOL) August is difficult since most people are in fact gone. I would vote for the Fall term. 4. Would it be possible for us to meet with Victoria Sork about the new Anxiety/Arts program she and her colleagues recently started? Sure; you want me to set it up? 5. Planning to meet with Gigi this week re: MIC equipment and resources - we can clone motion-capture technology in collab with Prof Balasubramanian at UC Merced and autonomic neurophysiology ("neuromarketing") technology in collab with Prof Bryant at UCLA (Communication Studies). 6. Met with Bob Fink about Symposium etc over an hr last week. Upcoming meetings with Nina Edeheim, Neal Stur4ber& and the Mindful Music team. We have the Psychology-in-Action Graduate Student Society (over 2000 participants on their blogs) as well as the undergraduate Music Cognition, Cognitive Science, and Neuroscience societies helping with the Symposium. Best, Mark EFTA00670589
