Free Play centers around the idea of play as an influential actor in the design process, producing work which intimately reveals our drive toward novelty, upending traditional notions about the role of design in our lives. The impressive lineup of creators included in the exhibition features names such as Maarten Baas, Nendo, Jimenez Lai, Snarkitecture, Katie Stout and Karen Chekerdjian. 21 May - 20 August 2017 Santa Barbara, CA - USA MCA Santa Barbara EFTA00675201 "SUR/FACE Spiegel" at the Museum Angewandte Kunst curated by Juliane Duft, Dr Mahret Kupka, Dr Christine Nippe, Matthias Wagner K SUR/FACE will take a look at surfaces of contemporary applied and fine art that function as mirrors: they draw the beholder's gaze towards them and immediately throw it back to the beholder at their surroundings. With design objects by such names as Maison Margiela and Ettore Sottsass as well as artworks by Andy Warhol, Heimo Zobernig and others, the exhibition will recreate high-lustre interiors somewhere ranging between intimacy and opulence that are just as capable of conveying a sense of familiarity as they are of arousing desire.
