From: Ben Goertzel To: Jeffrey Epstein Subject: AGI Proposal Date: Mon, 02 Dec 2013 11:40:35 +0000 Attachments: Epstein_AGI_Proposal_Summary_2013_v6.pdf Hi Jeffrey, Attached find a research proposal such as we discussed. Please let me know when like to talk next; I can make myself available anytime for this, but late morning or early evening your time works ideally given the time zone differences... As you'll see, I decided to take up your invitation to "think big" ... this is a full fledged proposal "from here to AGI", with lots of exciting incremental progress along the way... I hope you'll be able to take the time to read it over ;) Of course it would be AWESOME to start a project like this full-speed-ahead sometime soon !! be happy to discuss that with you at any time... As you'll see, the project as I conceive it is neatly divided into modular teams, so it could be done as one big co-located team, or it could be done via a group of interacting teams at different locations including some in university labs, fitting with your general funding . of supporting university labs)... OTOH if that sort of "AGI Brooklyn Project" style initiative is too much for you to bite off at the moment, I would still VERY much value help meeting the $45K obligation for the 10% "Corporate Sponsorship" of my 2014 "10 AI programmer" Hong Kong grant. This will help us get OpenCog to do cool enough stuff that you will have an easier time getting interest from others in the broader proposal.... For instance,. pretty sure that during 2014 we can get OpenCog to demonstrate a capability for deception in the game world ;) I recall you mentioned in our conversation that you think I should "be somewhere." I guess you mean at some US institution. I am pretty open to reloc rg1:. anywhere if this relocation is part of a major AGI fundingM initiative. On the other hand, here I have managed to get the gov't to allocate me $$ for AGI programmers, which is nice. One possibility, if you're agreeable, would be for you to fund me to have a research professorship at Hong Kong Poly U, which is where the OpenCog programmers here are situated. That way I could spend the bulk of my time on OpenCog AGI work, which would be great.... Of course that is not as good as having the full fledged AGI project funded, but it would let me work better toward getting OpenCog to do cool stuff that will help attract funding for the larger EFTA00678280 project... Anyway you get the idea... hope we can talk soon... -- Ben Ben Goertzel, PhD http://goertzel.org "In an insane world, the sane man must appear to be insane". -- Capt. James T. Kirk EFTA00678281

EFTA00700552 - Goertzel-Arel 'Robot Toddler' AGI Proposal for Epstein Foundation

DOJ-released document from Data Set 9 containing the draft research and development proposal prepared by AI researchers Ben Goertzel and Itamar Arel for the Jeffrey Epstein VI Foundation. The proposal outlines a $3 million project to develop a 'robotic AGI toddler' — an artificial general intelligence system 'with the rough general intelligence of a human 3-4 year old child, demonstrated via embodiment in virtual world characters and humanoid robots.' Arel was designated as primary investigator, contributing his DeSTIN (Deep SpatioTemporal Inference Network) facial recognition system developed at the University of Tennessee using graduate student labor. Goertzel, who received direct salary from the Epstein Foundation, proposed the project and suggested additional hundreds of thousands in funding for Arel's research assistants. This document is central to understanding Epstein's funding of cutting-edge AI research through academic intermediaries.
