Subject: 8 Aug 13 position summary

Today's trading was characterized by position squaring in the commodity currencies as
trade data from China this morning showed that exports in creased 5.1% in July, but
imports increased by 10.9%. Short AUD positions were closed in a strong reaction to this
news (significant short squeeze). Technically nothing has been altered in the long term
down trend in AUD. Significant position squaring into the end of summer may keep the
AUD from making new lows below .8842, which is what I expect. I added a position which
will benefit if the AUD does not make new lows in the next four weeks.
The USD sold off vs the CAD from 1.0423 last night down to close to 1.03. We took profit
on the CAD position at 1.0423.
U.S. jobless claims were improved this am, with weekly claims at 332,000. The average
number of workers applying for jobless benefits declined to 335,5Oo in the four weeks
ended Aug. 3, the least since November 2OO7, according to Labor Department data. This is
very USD supportive, needless to say.
Today's p/1 was down a little from yesterday at ($mok).
I will be reachable next week but will be away with my family for Monday-Friday so trading
volume will hopefully be lighter.
Thank you for everything.
Laurie
