From: Mayor Philip Levine < To: Subject: Storm Water Pumps Date: Wed, 02 Sep 2015 13:58:41 +0000 > Having trouble viewing this email? Click here Dear Friends and Neighbors, EFTA00685346 Thankfully Tropical Storm Erika did not make landfall in South Florida, but it did provide the City an opportunity to exercise our hurricane plan and emergency procedures. Not only were we prepared for the potential threat of the storm we were ready for the first seasonal high tide. We are encouraged that the storm water pump stations that have been installed responded well and NO severe flooding was reported. We also had temporary pumps and generators on standby to quickly respond to isolated flooding as needed. Please note that only approximately 10% of our overall flood prevention system is currently in place. When we are faced with a combination of seasonal high tides and heavy rains we have not achieved perfection yet, however we are continuing to learn and improve in order to protect our city against sea level rise. As you know, Miami Beach is leading the way for adapting and mitigating sea level rise impacts. We are working for you to ensure the city's resiliency by investing in our storm water pumps, upgrading infrastructure and enhancing our neighborhoods. We will continue our efforts to make our city resilient and sustainable for future generations. Thank you for your patience and perseverance.
