Subject: RE: survive the storm?

In NYC.
I went up to PA on Monday to secure the house for the storm. Not much to do really but put outdoor furniture in the
barns etc., but it had to get done. Woke up Tuesday morning at 3a.m. to no power. Drove back to the city. Fortunately I
took back a small generator I had up there and filled two 5 gallon gas cans. The 2.25 hour usual drive to 4.5 hours. GW
Bridge was closed too so had to make it down to the Lincoln tunnel with lots of blocked streets.
No power in lower manhattan. The generator which I had to carry to the roof, has been keeping the fridge cold and the
heating system on 6 going. The kids stayed with Joyce because they have power up there. Could be worse.
There is no cell phone coverage downtown since the cells are not getting power. I occasionally drive up above 23rd street
and use the car as my comfortable phone booth to make calls. If the car had a full bathroom I'd move into it. heat,
electricity, reclining seats, radio, DVD player, etc.
I have access to the Internet because WNYC is across the street
broadcasting with generators. I happen to get their wifi signal. I went over there the other night and badgered them for
the user name and password. My Cooper Union Chairman of the Board business card helps in those situations.
Did you much damage there?
