From: "Noam Chomsky" To: "Jeffrey E." <[email protected]> Subject: RE: any interaction Date: Sun, 05 Jul 2015 00:17:23 +0000 Sounds like a very appealing guy, as well as obviously a very deep thinker. A welcome member of the tribe. There is interesting work on probabilistic models. Bob and his students have done important work on computational complexity, and he's the co-author of quite an interesting paper, which he may discuss with you, showing how efforts to deal with simple problems with probabilistic models of acceptability that eliminate grammar fail (by many orders of magnitude) as compared with the same models that integrate grammatical knowledge — not too surprising, apart from prevailing dogmas. Hope we can work something out with Barak. Lots of questions I'd like to ask him, especially about events that are only partially described in what archival records have been released. As you probably know, in 1970 I lectured for several days, all day, in the ruins of the Polytechnique in Hanoi, on every topic I knew anything about. Those who attended were starved for anything, because of the isolation. Some were mathematicians, who probably had attended his seminar. From: jeffrey E.
