They are forwarded to me by "Vengu," a colleague of mine who has done a lot of work on the waveguide properties of the cone photoreceptors in the retina. [Cones actually orient to the location of the pupil (rather than a simple normal to the retinal surface) and their waveguide properties have been measured and modelled (key work at U. California, Berkeley, natch!).
