I hope you enjoy these samples of physicist? humor...
They are forwarded to me by "Vengu," a colleague of mine who has done a lot of work on the waveguide
properties of the cone photoreceptors in the retina. [Cones actually orient to the location of the pupil (rather than
a simple normal to the retinal surface) and their waveguide properties have been measured and modelled (key
work at U. California, Berkeley, natch!). If one wears a contact lens to restrict and decenter the location of the
eye's entrance pupil for a few weeks, the behavioral sensitivity of light detection as a function of pupil location
changes as if the cones are following the pupil -- like phototactic sunflowers! ]
