From: "Kosslyn, Stephen" To: Jeffrey Epstein <[email protected]> Subject: Re: <no subject> Date: Sun, 28 Feb 2010 13:29:58 +0000 I'm around.. Trouble with New School: Kerry is out of there after this year, and it's unclear who the new President will be; the Provost expires this July, and it's unclear who that will be - - so, the grand plan could be yanked out in a year. Plus, the faculty has a proportion of left-wing crazies! That said, I must be like a moth and that's the flame; something about it appeals... I hope all's well by you. Here's some news: wrote: 1) At the 11th hour, I was asked to reconsider allowing myself to be Dean of the Fac of Arts and Sciences at NYU. Last week I went down and had a very happy 2 hours with the search committee (no kidding — I really had fun with them). I was immediately put into the final 3 (plus 1 inside candidate, who probably will get the job, if I had to bet). Yesterday the Prez, John Sexton, asked me to come to NYC today (Saturday) for a chat. I had a very good 1.5 hours with him. He says that even if the Dean thing doesn't work, he wants me down there in some capacity. 2) Meanwhile, the good folks out at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences are being very solicitous. I'll go out there in a couple of weeks. I've now talked at length to the current Director and to the Associate Director, and think I've got a handle on the place (and their problems, which are huge). I'll also drop in on Peter Norvig (Head of Research at Google — you know him?) while I'm out there. 3) Finally, the New School wants and Executive Dean to give them 5 years to reorganize the place. It sounds like it could be fun, if you like a good challenge. 4) I withdrew from being Senior Vice Chancellor at UCSD. I couldn't bear the thought of being a State employee in California and having to live down there.. You OK?
