So far, it seems that it is getting better with age ;) Knowing how you like to learn what is hot and new. Today's issue of Nature supplement is dedicated to Synthetic Biology. It provides a great overview of progresses/challenges and it includes some older papers. I am attaching you a introductory review that is outlining some major problems. However, there is no question that this is rapidly progressive field and that things will be easily possible in 10 years. Cheap and plenty of oil from bioengineered algae, sugar from cellulose, or various drugs and enzymes. Unfortunately, terrorists will quickly catch up.
