APRIL 2018 MU Origins Project Arizona State University January 13, 2018 Dr. Daniel Kahneman Woodrow Wilson School Princeton University 301 Robertson Hall Princeton, NJ 08544-1013 Dear Dr. Kahneman, ORIGINS 10 YEAR ORICINS10YEAR.COM It is my great pleasure to invite you to be a part of the Origins Project 10 Year Anniversary Celebrations from April 5-9, 2018 in beautiful Scottsdale, Arizona. This will entail a series of extraordinary events to kick off our tenth year and bring together over 150 outstanding individuals, assembled from past Origins participants and new partners from among the world's most eminent scholars, artists, and public intellectuals. Since its groundbreaking inaugural symposium in 2009, the Origins Project has successfully created unique opportunities to explore foundational questions and address major challenges of the 21s' century in ways that excite researchers and the public alike. Our workshops bring together transdisciplinary collections of scholars and have helped establish major new research programs around the world. Our public events reach hundreds of thousands worldwide via live streaming and archived high-quality videos available online. Audiences of over 2,000 people come from all over the world to attend our events in person, helping foster public appreciation of science and culture, locally, nationally, and internationally. In addition to our various programs and events, we also support young scholars engaged in Origins-related research programs, through scholarships and awards. Continuing the Origins Project tradition of public engagement, collaboration, and discovery, the 10 Year Anniversary will be an intellectual extravaganza of public and private events, including our signature Origins Dialogues, Great Debates, and panel discussions. Our diverse panel discussions will cover forefront issues of great scientific and cultural importance, including topics as diverse as the Frontiers of Physics, the Origins of Life, the Future of Democracy, and the Origins of Religion, as well as panels for and by journalists about science, and panels for the public such as the Storytelling of Science. Attached for your perusal is a preliminary list of individuals invited to participate in the celebrations, as well as a provisional list of panel subjects. We welcome your input on potential additional participants who might add particular value to the events. Please note that all participants will play an active role in the discussions associated with the various panels, the specific makeup of which will be determined over the coming months. As is our custom, all panel discussions may be webcast or filmed for the benefit of the public, and their content selectively curated for our Origins Education Portal (httos://origins.asu.edu/origins- portal), which allows the public access to the new knowledge advanced by our discussions. As a participant, all travel and accommodation expenses associated with the participation of you and a guest for the Origins 10 Year Anniversary will be covered by the Origins Project.
