The issue is there aren't many solution that would be a fit for this type of environment. Here's what I know about the unit you have installed. It's an eKey Solutions scanner which was most likely purchased through eHolovision the same manufacturer of the intercom unit. eKey is a European based company who leads the market for high net worth residential solutions and are known for their aesthetic solutions. They use a scanner type of reader where you have to take your finger and place the crease of your finger on the LED sensor bar and slide downward. There are several challenges depending on the height they are mounted, the weather and regular dirt and dust form the environment. eKey recommends cleaning them regularly and mounting them at a minimum height of 60". They also recommend enrolling several fingers e.g. two on each hand. If the scanner doesn't read the first time they recommend rubbing your finger on your forehead before trying again. Lastly and this might be the ultimate solution is to enroll the user at this reader as opposed to using an enrollment reader. eKey recently updated their software to allow any reader to be used as an enrollment reader. I'm not familiar with how you enrolled the boss's finger but you may want to try to re-enroll him at that reader. All that being said I attached a few brochures on other leading types of biometric readers. As you will see they are larger and much different than the eKey scanner. The other different is these fingerprint readers and just that they are readers and not scanners which provide a much faster and accurate read. These unit just require you to place your finger on the glass as opposed to sliding it across the sensor. The BioEntry W2 is the smallest of the bunch and would provide a faster more accurate read but I would suggest trying the above mentioned steps before making any changes. In general biometrics can be challenging so I would hate for you to make changes only to find another set of challenges. I wish I could have offered more but the selections are limited. I hope this helps to some degree. Let me know if you have any questions.
