You are even more jaded than me so I know that you know what I mean. Gifts don't really have the "oomph" that they did before we became such self-entitled ass-holes. Things are just things. And, for the most part, when people give you things they are more a function of acknowledging an event than anything meaningful. I really can't remember the last time anyone gave me anything truly meaningful. The extraordinary portrait that you gave me today, the thought, the care, the time, the intimacy of it, really touched me to the core. I cannot thank you enough, Jeffery. You are a very dear friend. I am so glad that you are finally exiting your period of darkness and despair and returning to the world to make the exceptional contributions that only you can make. I consider myself fortunate indeed to be counted amongst those who you love and trust and I thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for what is truly amongst the best presents I have EVER received (and that includes the mini-bike I got for my bar mitzvah). It will hang in a place of honor, it will bring an eternal smile to my face, and it will be a family heirloom, I am certain, for generations.
