I have decided that the best first step to pursue the mitochondrial idea is to do it as a public good - and here is what it would take to translate the cardiac models to brain: ...12-16 months, $300k ...contract to Boston Children's/Harvard guy to train in the technique $50K ...contract to MD Anderson folks to replicate in pig ischemia model $100K ...contract to UW folks to replicate in mouse ischemia and/or degeneration model $100K ...post-doc or two to complete the work and help write up the results $50K ...What we get for that is the proof of concept to either go forward or not. Next step is human trial and create IP around a xeno transplant gel and either grow a company or sell the idea ...Could try to ask DARPA for some money but need to have done a few experiments first 10. Paul Allen's CEO sent me a note saying he'd love to check in with me in the next few months. He says Paul is not keen to hire anyone to be chief scientist but would make an exception for me if he does. THey keep saying that and I keep following up but this could be a few years of hide and seek. 11. IFC CEO has told me that next year he's opening up a health practice for investing in emerging market facilities etc and asked if I was interested. Not really.
