To: Jeffrey From: Harry Date: March 14, 201 Re: 2002 Mercedes S 600 The following procedures must be followed in order to bring the 2002 Mercedes S 600 (automobile) into the US (New Mexico) from Paris: 1) Obtain a letter of conformity from a Mercedes Benz manufacturer that the automobile conforms to both US EPA standards and to DOT standards 2) Bring this letter of conformity with the following documents to the US Customs Service at 1100 Raymond Blvd, Newark NJ 07102: a) Passport of current owner b) Bill of Sale c) Current Title of the automobile d) Bill of lading e) Arrival notice Once these documents are reviewed and processed by the Customs Service they will provide you with a completed form EPA 3520-1 and DOT HS-7. You will also be required to pay a duty of 2.5% of the fair market value of the automobile. The next step is dealing with New Mexico Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV). The automobile must be brought to the DMV for a VIN inspection (to verify that the VIN on the automobile is authentic). Than the following documents must be presented: a) Proof of New Mexico Insurance b) Proof of Residency (a utility bill would suffice) c) Completed Application for title and registration (DMV Form # 10002) d) Title of automobile (not a copy) e) Required to pay a 3% excise tax on automobile value.
