Epstein Subject: Some more Stolofsky info. Hi Mark I hope this note finds you well. First, a belated thank you for a wonderful evening last month. I traded messages with Maria this week and remembered that I never sent you a note so please accept my apologies. Liz and I had a great time. We really enjoyed the music, and especially the company. Regards to Ralph. Regarding the Stolofsky Family Tree, I have made some excellent progress. It was originally Stolowsky. I had thought the family came from Kapcimiestis (Kopschewy in Yiddish) since that is what Max and Louis indicated on their Ellis Island papers, but they're orginally from a smaller area that borders it - a town about 12km to the south called Veisiejai. It's located in the SW corner of Lithuania. Back then it was either Poland or Russia depending on what year we track it back to - in the larger province of Suwalki. I was able to confirm that Max and Louis' dad was Rubin and his wife was Bessie (Pesia Freda) and they're both buried in Maspeth along with Louis. Pesia's maiden name was Zyskowska (or Lazarus)..so if you meet a Lazarus, he or she may be a relative. There was also an older sister Ruchula who married Pesia's Uncle (Jerome), they had a daughter Frances. Now if the Lithuania Civil records are accurate, and my geneology expert says they probably are, then Rubin's dad and mom was Lejba (born around 1819) and Rachama Borowska. Lejba's parents were Jankiel (b. 1800) and Tamara. Jankiel's dad was Leyba (b. 1781) and Leyba's dad was Yankel (b. 1760). And it looks like many of them were Blacksmiths. So while George Washington was fighting the Brits, Yankel was around. I made contact with Sara Lobl and she had some interesting stories about her dad. They're mostly true! She and her brothers had a very hard childhood and lived part of it in an orphanages on Amsterdam Ave, and later with various families (including Louis and Lena). Sara has cartons full of photos and she was able to identify some of my photos including one of Max and one of Pesia (your great grandmother -see attached). I also attached some interesting immigration documents. Let me know if you want better copies made. I'm happy to do it. In the photo of Pesia, the young man is Sam. In Max's immigration record, it seems that he sailed alone and it says he is going to live with his brother Leiser... Rubins immigrated along and Pesia, Sam and Jake came a few years later. Mark, thanks again for a great evening. EFTA01132165 Best regards, Harry Hatru Jager EFTA01132166
