"Why I want to go to Rwanda to do Community Service Work"
I would like to go to Rwanda, Africa to do community service because in my
eyes, I see it as a splendid opportunity to reach out and make a difference in another's
life. This is not an everyday opportunity that's granted, yet, it is a once in a life time
journey that gives me an exhilarating feeling when in my thought. As a young teenager,
this journey is meaningful to me, as with this project, I will touch kids with my abilities
and my heart. I will get to help some one else's dream come a reality. Hence, I would be
delighted to go to Rwanda and anticipate the moment to meet with the children, do
activities and socialize with the kids, and gain knowledge of the way of life in Rwanda.
1 am eager to meet the children of Rwanda to learn about a new way of life.
Several times, we hear the dreaded stories of youths in certain parts of Africa on
television programs. In comparison to their standards of living, our standards of living in
the Virgin Islands are much higher than theirs, so it is possible that somewhere I can
contribute to Rwanda. With this opportunity, I will be able to hear these stories for my
own ears and give them some hope and advice. I am a person of helping others, I say that
because one day I may need the help in return and I am not a selfish person. Meeting the
children of Rwanda will be a wonderful moment because there faces will light up and
smile Along with meeting them, we will do a number of activities with them.
Engaging in activities with the children will give me a chance to see what they do
for pleasure and fun. While playing activities, we will get to teach each other new ways
of playing; as we may have our tradition while they have theirs'. As I socialize with the
kids, I hope to decorate and place plants in the ground of a specific area as part of the

project. As we engage in activities we will begin to form a bond through the
communication. I will also be able to hear their accent and learn some common words in
their language.
I am also interested in learning from the Rwandan children are the important
values to society and their consequences. Each society comes with their distinct set of
values and their history. Therefore, through socializing I should be able to attain such
information based on their way of living. It is great to have a skill and even greater to
know you can take it and help some one else. That is what gives your skill value and
meaning.
All in all, it would be so amazing to know that I can travel around the globe and
make a difference, and by going to Rwanda 1 can do just that. I am zealous when it comes
to helping others. Learning the way of life in Rwanda will also help us to appreciate what
we have as our culture even more. I am a very sharing person and I think I am fit to go to
Rwanda, Africa. As the old saying goes, "Sharing is caring!" and I do believe that we
should do unto others as we would like unto ourselves; we never know when our time
will come.

"Why I want to go to Rwanda to do Community Service work"
Sometimes while I sit and watch the discovery channel about things going
on around the world I sometimes ask myself, "if I was there would I have
make a difference?"
My cousin was blessed enough to go on the Rwanda trip last year. and he
told me it was great feeling to go and do community service for the people
of Rwanda. I want to feel helpful and needed also. We sit here in our houses
and we have everything we need and more, but there arc people out there
that need a helping hand. People who will appreciate anything someone can
do for them. The bible tells us about being a Good Samaritan. I would like to
experience that feeling. Traveling over to Rwanda and experiencing diet;
poverty and economy will help me realize to be grateful of what I ha% c. to
be humble and more appreciative. I will also to be able to share my
experience and knowledge I receive from school and where I live.
Every time I sit and watch the TV on the endangered animals of Africa. I
actually would like to also see them in their natural habitat. not in Animal
Kingdom. Sea World or in cages.
Being able to help hands on and experience a culture change outside the
United States for couple weeks will be such a learning experience and an
adventure to last a life time. The next time I watch the television with in
family, watching the Discovery Channel, I can explain to them the challenge
and the advantage cultures like the people of Rwanda have.
If given the chance to go Rwanda I will be so excited to sec new places and
meet new people and help in which ever way I can. This trip will be once in
a lifetime opportunity for a young boy like me. Something I will treasure for
the rest of my life.
