In July, Picard sued Bernard Madoffs wife, Ruth, seeking $45 million.
Picard also filed a lawsuit against philanthropists Jeffry and Barbara Picower in May. In the lawsuit, Picard accuses the Picowers of
knowing about and benefiting from the fraud.
Bernard and Ruth Madoff have been forced to forfeit multiple homes. yachts, cars and other trappings of their lavish lifestyle to the
govemment to help compensate the victims.
Conrad Black
The U.S. Supreme Court is set to hear oral arguments Dec. 8 in the case of media baron Conrad Black's appeal.
Black, 65, was convicted of looting the corporate parent of the Chicago Sun-Times and other newspapers.
Black, of Palm Beach, is asking the Supreme Court to throw out his July 2007 conviction for fraudulently skimming millions of dollars from
the company. He was convicted in Chicago on three counts of mail fraud and one count of obstruction of justice.
The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on whether his federal fraud conviction should be overturned, but the high court refused to
grant him bail pending appeal. U.S. District Judge Amy J. St. Eve, who presided over his trial, also denied him bail.
The former Hollinger International Inc. executive is serving a 6 1/2-year sentence in the Coleman Correctional Institution in Central Florida.
The justices agreed to review a ruling by a U.S. appeals court in Chicago that upheld the conviction of Black and former Hollinger senior
executives Peter Atkinson, John Boultbee and Mark Kipnis.
A Canadian-born member of Britain's House of Lords. Black has been in prison since March 2008.
Michael Kagdis
Palm Beach party planner and promoter Michael Kagdis was charged in August with trafficking in the painkiller Oxycodone. sale and
possession of cocaine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Kagdis. 40, is out on bond. A status check of the case is scheduled for Nov. 5 in Palm Beach County Circuit Court.
A party promoter and figure on the island's charity scene, Kagdis has worked as a bartender and hotel publicist. Last year, he started his
own line of vodka. Palm Beach Proper.
Kagdis was arrested after Palm Beach Police searched his Midtown apartment in the wake of a drug sting involving a confidential
informant.
Police said they found drugs during a search of his home, an apartment behind 335 Seabreeze Ave., and his Range Rover. The arrest
was the result of a long-term narcotics investigation by the departments Special Investigation Unit.
