Maxwell to face new charges BRITISH prosecutors will bring new charges against Kevin Maxwell, one of the late media
baron Robert Maxwell's two sons acquitted by a High Court jury of fraud last week. But Kevin Maxwell said he was the victim
of a political decision related to the forthcoming British elections.
He will appeal to have the charges dismissed. The charges relate to an alleged conspiracy to defraud the Credit Suisse Bank of
more than $200 million. Older brother Ian will not face the charges.
Congress votes to avert shutdown JUST hours before a midnight deadline, the US Congress voted yesterday to fmance dozens
of agencies for seven more weeks, averting a third shutdown of the Government since November. By an 82-8 roll call, the Senate
sent the legislation to President Clinton. His promised signature would ward off another round of padlocked offices and workers
forced to stay home that both sides saw as a public relations nightmare.
Rocket attack blamed on India PAKISTAN said Indian gunners fired two rockets at a mosque in Pakistani-held And (free)
Kashmir yesterday, killing 19 worshippers, including three children, and seriously wounding 20 others. But India denied
responsibility and accused Pakistani troops of firing two rockets at another town close to the line dividing the disputed Himalayan
region. Pakistani police said one rocket crashed into a crowd leaving a mosque in the village of Forward Kahuta after noon
Prayers.
