Subject: Re: Epstein Arrest / Search Warrant Stand-By List
Good Evening,
Below is an email from SDNY. If the arrest should happen prior to Monday, please consider this as your initial
brief from the AUSA's. Thank you all for your assistance in this matter, and being on standby during the
holiday.
Thanks very much to everyone for assisting in this investigation, and summary briefing information is below. For any
questions that come up, or any issues at all, each of the prosecutors is available anytime day or night, seven days a
week, at the following cell phone numbers:
Background for U.S. v. Epstein approaches:
Arrest facts we can convey to individuals being approached:
Jeffrey Epstein has been arrested and charged with sex trafficking of minor girls and conspiring with others to traffic
minor girls for paid sex acts. He has been charged in the Southern District of New York, for conduct that occurred in
locations including New York and Florida. He faces up to 45 years in prison on the current charges.
(FYSA: Epstein previously was investigated by the U.S. Attorney's Office and the FBI in Florida, which led to him
receiving a non-prosecution agreement in connection with some of his conduct in Florida. If individuals who are
EFTA01653324
approached in connection with our investigation say that he—or they—have immunity, or can't be prosecuted because
of that agreement, that is incorrect. The non-prosecution agreement does not apply to the Southern District of New
York, and even if it did, we are charging conduct beyond the scope of that agreement.)
Criminal conduct overview:
For a period of many years, including the early-mid 2000s, Epstein enticed dozens and possibly hundreds of underage
girls to engage in sexual activity with him in exchange for money. The girls would go to his houses, including in Palm
Beach, Florida, and Manhattan, New York, with the understanding that they were going to give a man an erotic massage
and would be paid $200-300. During the massages, Epstein would have the girls take off some or all of their clothes,
and then he would escalate the sexual nature of the massages, either during the first encounter or during subsequent
encounters. The sexual activity included him groping victims and directly touching victims' genitals with his hands and
with sex toys.
In order to keep getting new young girls to exploit, Epstein would offer to pay these victims more money just to bring
other new girls—the "recruiter" victims wouldn't have to perform the massages and the sexual acts, just the new girl
would, and the "recruiter" victim would get paid the same amount of money (hundreds of dollars). Epstein or his
associates would pay the girls in cash. Epstein's primary recruiters were young girls, including his victims, though we
believe it is possible other individuals also assisted in recruiting (including possibly individuals listed below). To
schedule these encounters, Epstein and his employees would call the girls, or the girls would call Epstein and his
employees. We have records of phone messages from numerous girls to set up these encounters.
Approaches:
Of the individuals we plan to approach immediately following the arrest, most are subjects of the investigation and may
have direct knowledge of the crimes, or may have participated in them in some way. That includes:
-
Leslie Groff
-
Ghislaine (pronounced "Ghi-Lynn") Maxwell
-
Jean Luc Brunel
-
Leslie Wexner
All of these individuals should receive subpoenas, and they can all be told that they can reach out directly to the
prosecutor listed on the subpoena. If they want to have an attorney for any interaction with law enforcement,
obviously that's totally fine, and they can be in touch with us if they'd like to have counsel appointed for them, or if they
have their own counsel their attorney can contact us directly.
All of them should feel free to reach out to the agent(s) they speak with, or the prosecutor on the subpoena (and we
will loop in a case agent for those conversations if they occur). If they or their attorney contacts us prior to the grand
jury deadline, they may not need to physically come to the grand jury on that date for testimony, but they must
respond in some way before the deadline.
*For anyone who is approached in person, we would want to get contact info to follow up with them if they do not
respond to their subpoena.*
For each of those individuals, if they are willing to be interviewed, we are interested in knowing about their knowledge
of Epstein paying young girls for massages and sex acts. In particular:
_Groff, -are
all believed to have been employees of Epstein, and we believe they acted as
schedulers for Epstein in various locations. They handled calls and messages for him, and we believe that each booked
"massages" for him with underage girls. We want to know from them:
•
what their personal interactions were with young girls on behalf of Epstein
EFTA01653325
•
what direction they received from Epstein about those appointments
•
what their jobs were for Epstein
•
the details of their travel with him, including with any young girls
•
what Epstein said to them about the girls or the massages or sex acts
•
what they understood was happening when the sessions occurred with young girls
•
how and when they paid the girls
•
any other topics that flow from those subjects
Any statements from those individuals that they were not involved in scheduling sexual massages we would view as not
credible.
Maxwell.
nd Brunel were associates of Epstein.
Maxwell was believed to be his girlfriend for many years, and it has been reported that she assisted in recruiting certain
victims. She traveled extensively with Epstein and is reported to have had a sexual relationship with him and/or with
certain underage girls.
Brunel previously was a close friend and associate of Epstein; they subsequently had a falling-out in recent years and
have been engaged in litigation against each other. Brunel has been reported to have recruited minors for sexual
activity with Epstein, and to have himself participated in sexual activity with minors. Brunel ran a modeling agency that
gave him access to young girls, and he has been previously reported to have engaged in predatory behavior in the
modeling industry.
has been reported to have been Epstein's "sex slave" from an early age, possibly including when she was a
minor. She may have been a perpetrator of the conduct and may also have been a victim of Epstein.
From all three we would want to know:
•
what their personal interactions were with young girls along with Epstein
•
what Epstein said to them about the young girls he was with or the massages or sex acts with them
•
whether they saw or participated in sexual activity with young or young-looking girls
•
the details of their travel with him, including with any young girls
•
what role they had in recruiting and paying young girls for Epstein
•
what young girls they observed traveling with Epstein
•
any discussions they had with Epstein about his activities with young girls
•
For -n
particular we would want to know how she came to be associated with Epstein
-vas
a recruiter of young girls for Epstein, and she has referred to herself as his
She may have
been a minor during some of her conduct, and we believe Epstein attempted to victimize er.
e as previously
spoken with law enforcement, and she received immunity in the initial investigation and testified in the grand jury.
•
The goal of the approach of —is
to convey information to her about the investigation and to build
rapport if possible. We do not need to question her about the substance of her knowledge or role regarding
the conduct because she has previously given statements.
•
We believe she is unlikely to be willing to talk with agents, but if she is, we want to convey to her that we are
interested in speaking with her to explain the status of the investigation, and that we understand she may have
been victimized and/or coerced herself. We believe she also may currently qualify for court-appointed counsel,
and she can call us to arrange the logistics for that.
Wexner is a long-time friend and associate of Epstein, and has been reported to have had a decades-long business
relationship with him. Wexner is a billionaire and a founder of The Limited clothing company. If he wants to voluntarily
talk when he is approached, we are interested in knowing about his relationship with Epstein and his knowledge and
observations of Epstein with young girls, but we expect he likely will just be a subpoena drop.

**PLEASE NOTE" that for the following individuals we must take special precautions in the approach, in case they are
represented by counsel in connection with this investi ation:
•
Leslie Groff,
Ghislaine Maxwell,
and
For those individuals we MUST do the following:
1) Identify the matter being investigated: the conduct of Jeffrey Epstein in connection with alleged sex
trafficking of minors and conspiring with others to commit sex trafficking of minors
2) Ask the individual if they currently are represented by counsel in connection with a matter related to
Jeffrey Epstein
a. If they say yes, ask for the attorney name and/or contact information, and serve a grand jury
subpoena, and end the interview;
b. If they say no, ask if they are willing to be voluntarily interviewed
i. if yes, proceed with an interview
ii. if no, serve a grand jury subpoena and end the interview
Thank you!

Subject: Epstein Arrest / Search Warrant Stand-By List
Hey Everyone,
Thanks again for being so flexible with the assistance of this arrest & search. Me and
really appreciate
it and know this is not the most convenient week. As we've previously discussed with most of you, we will
likely only get about 12-24 hours notice on when he flies into the country. Its possible that notice could be
even shorter, but historically that isn't typically the case. Unfortunately we still don't have much of a better
idea on when he will be flying back so we will all have to be on stand-by until that happens. We will use this
e-mail as an initial notification to you guys as soon as we find out he has arranged travel/ submitted that to
CBP. Depending on our time window we will follow up with a tac location, whether it be at the office or just
EFTA01653327
meeting right at Teterboro. Another detail to note he has flown into MacArthur Airport (Islip Long Island) in
the past so that is also a potential audible.
When we send out the initial email notification with his flight info please respond to myself,
and
to let us know that you have received it and are still available to assist. We are aware of each of
your individual conflict dates/ travel plans but respond to us regardless so there is no confusion on the day
of. We have discussed with pretty much everyone what their particular assignments will be for the day of
(and days to follow) but if an one is still unsure of what is needed of them or we neglected to discuss with
you please call myself o
If this arrest does not happen before Monday, the AUSA's will be in the squad area for a brief around noon on
Monday. This may be especially helpful for those of you that volunteered to assist in interviewing victims and
witnesses, but we hope you can all attend.
Thanks again and see you guys soon. Enjoy the holiday!
