Start the OLD machine holding =own T until the dancing Thunderbolt or Firewire logos appear. =/span> 2a. If the OLD machine has a =hunderbolt port (HAS to have the lightening bolt icon above) then use =he =/span>Thunderbolt cable to link the two machines. - Or - 2b. =/span>If the OLD machine does not have a Thunderbolt port, then plug =ne end of the FireWire cable into the old machine, and =he other into the FireWire to Thunderbolt adapter, and the =hunderbolt end into the new machine. Run setup, when asked to migrate =xisting data, choose from another disk, and select ONLY =he =/span>home folder from the Documents & Data section. Once you've confirmed the data is on the new machine =nd working, we can erase the old machine by =pening /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.app. =/span>Select the icon for =he old volume underneath the icon that should say "Target Disk =ode" (I'm assuming the =omputer is still attached via Target Disk Mode — if not, =epeat steps 1 & 2 above) and click =rase. Select Security Options and click =he first tick mark on the left to overwrite the drive with a =ingle pass of zeros (this may take a couple =ours). Once it completes, eject the old drive and shut the machine =own. It's now ready to be disposed of =afely (the next person will have =o reinstall the operating system).
