Dear Colleagues, A member of our Operating Committee for nearly 15 years, Jes Staley has long been a champion of two areas now more relevant and critical to our future then ever before. : technology and regulation. Jes has expressed to me his desire to free him from day to day management in order that he might engage more fully with independent companies and entrepreneurs of the next generation of ideas that have the potential to make signifigant impacts on the buisniess of JP Morgan Chase and its customers. As many of you already know, Jes has played a central role in our relationships with regulatory agencies, politicians and their key constituencies around the globe i have asked that he remain in this role as i believe it will vital to our growth in world that is under going major shifts in its fudamental understanding of the banking system. After jes's three years at the helm of the Investment bank and International, the businesses have never been stronger, and are left with great momentum and a deep bench. The conditions are now ripe to begin a transition of the management of the IB to the next generation while taking full advantage of Jes's apptitude to initaite new ideas and solutions in the fast changing and ever growing complexity of regulation and technology. [explain formally managers/reorganization if necessary] During the second half of 2012, Jes has agreed tol work with Mike and Daniel to ensure a seamless transfer of responsabilities. Thereafter, Jes will in addition to becoming a vice chariman of jp morgan chase. Head a Regulation and Technology Council to be formed t Tthis committee, will be comprised of as academics, public figures, and leaders from the arenas of technology and finance as well as draw on the deep resources already inside the firm [One more sentance describing might be nice] Jes will continue to assist me directly and the firm with select client relationships and important ongoing strategic initiatives.
