Today: Calling Jane Rosenthal/Craig Hatkoff for contacts for their accountants. Calling Jean Doumanian for same. Calling Cindi Berger- head of large PR firm PMK/BNC to get her accountant. Also Cynthia Swartz who owns a small pr company called Strategy. I will get all these names and contacts today and email them for appointments week of Jan. 7th. #3. Bryan told me not to do anything about replacing Darin till January or Feb. (So Darin can go to Sundance and sign up business....I am not an idiot) He was taken back when I told him I was interviewing someone yesterday as he was on his way to Thailand. I interviewed a smart 27 year old young woman with experience in movie pr and knows every player at every studio we deal with. This is extremely valuable. The kids in my office found her and have hired her as free lance to help at big events and like her. She came up yesterday.... and the whole office grilled her on aggressively going after films and sponsorship. She is great. They want her as do I. I called Bryan as he was on the way to the airport and told him to hire her. He said she can call him in a day or so after he got to his destination. He is will probably hire work out a deal for a month or so trail...that's his way of "testing" someone. He was very surprised I moved so quickly. I also told him either Jenna or I would go to Sundance. He said that was "not my thing"....as a protection to Darin. Darin has no intention of working with us...even if we need sponsorship...as Bryan says "the door is open". Darin has already called every studio to announce he is leaving. I have to call/email every studio head and Darin's contacts today and say we just replaced him. Bryan is thinking of letting Darin develop his relationships with young film makers that he says "I am not interested in" because I am away in Cannes writing my story...it's a lame excuse for "permission" for Darin to compete with me. After Bryan tells me Darin gave the company a young approach....now he tells me "that young is not my thing". Bryan is trying to run a new business for Darin on small films from Jan- Sept....god only knows what he thinks I am doing during those months....he keeps giving me this bullshit that I will continue to do parties for socialite Kathy Rayner to "fill in". Then when all my big Oscar business heats up between Sept/Jan...he might be there to run that billing. Bryan can not work for both of us because it's a conflict of interest. Darin is a nasty guy who worked for Collen Camp, a crazy fat lady who was married to gay John Goldwyn (son of Sam,jr) and stole her roledex to come to me. He then worked 5 years to make studio contacts on my name and try to start his own business...which I swear Bryan will try to finance and run. I also need a lawyer asap....to set my business as of new year under my name and not "Wagging Tail" and to take control of the books. He also tells me my whole office hates me and is walking out in January. There are no jobs. These kids need jobs. They were the ones who found this new girl. They interviewed her with me. The office is all staying. Andres, has been with me for 13 years. He controls the lists and is staying. Melanie does the PR and Marisa organizes the venues and budgets. They are not leaving. I am getting a new assistant. The one I have came out of an intern pool and has a hot temper and hangs up the phone on me and curses at me...I have stopped the cursing...she has little grammar skills...is a very hard worker and a creep. I am interviewing a new assistant in Jan. That is an easy job to fill. Frankly, the office was happy to see Darin go. His moodiness and secrecy caused tension in the office...a bright new girl their age with leadership abilities and a feeling of team work is what they want. Bryan also tells me I was not helpful on Darin's accounts getting high profile hosts or high profile friends to come to his events...when I was over loaded with my own. So Bryan's tactics are...to tell me I am not like by the people who hire us, not liked by the office, not helpful on other projects, not interested in new film makers....do you get the mentality of putting me down to control me...it's a joke when he is a recluse and never has any face time with any of the players...he operates on second hand info. I do think Bryan was stunned by how much money I brought in Sept to Jan...and we have to get all that info asap. I think Bryan basically is loyal to me....but could not help himself when he hired an unhappy aging gay kid....and got sucked into Darin's problems. We have managed to finally beat this Andrew Safra at his own game. Now we have to keep up the aggressive work. I am the one with relationships with every studio head, every top film maker and the top media. How do I tell Bryan that if he helps Darin at all it's a conflict. I know Bryan like a book. He will say one is LA based and one is NYC based. The events I did in LA were highly successful and that is a whole new territory...I am not handing over to Darin. I also told Bryan I want to go to every studio and present these press conference/lunches all year...as the Oscar race ones are not expensive and yield a lot to coverage. He was actually surprised I thought of that and it's a great way for more revenu. Packing for St. Berths today. I am sick I am going and paying so much to run after rich people who do not care about me. I do have my movies as currency...but the social pressure of wondering if Ronald Perleman or Janie Buffet is talking to me is a waste of my time. I will see Geffen, who arrives on the 29th. Derek Blasberg, who wrote the Harper's Bazaar profile is getting me into Dasha Ehukova's New Year's Eve EFTA_R1_00349239 EFTA01912112 party.... and Austin Hearst is coming with a 70 foot (tiny compared to the other boats) new racing catamaran....which I can use for lunches and sails. Mattie is supposed to come today at 2:00pm to go shopping for a xmas present. I have not seen her since May. Also...MOST important...she told me Gary is taking her and his wife to the Breakers in Palm Beach for a week because he wants to play golf. That's two rooms at the height of the season and he is spending my mother's money. I swear he is spending a lot more now. A vacation is just the tip of the iceberg. This is a big problem.
