Tuesday, December 10- Jaron Lanier, celebrated inventor, author, musician, composer, and Brian Greene, famed theoretical physicist, joins Elliott Mannette in a conversation about the steel drum, the physics of sound and the mapping of musical structure onto a 3D object. The conversation will be moderated by physicist Dr Stephon Alexander. Wednesday, December 11- Trinidadian artist Che Lovelace gives a performance piece in which he re-contextualizes an oil barrel - a found object linked to the steel drum's development. In this piece, the oil barrel is presented in relation to the body, to Caribbean cultural ritual and the larger idea of creative technique.Following Che's piece, Olof Dreijer of The Knife and Elliott Mannette come together for a musical performance and discussion. Dreijer speaks about his process as a composer, his use of steel drum in particular tracks, and the state of electronic music. Mannette weighs in on a conversation with Olof about contemporary iterations of the steel drum, and in both contradistinction and comparison, reflects on his analogue musical invention.
