We light the first candle on Tuesday night December 20th at nightfall or after dark. We continue lighting the candles each night through and including on Tuesday night December 27th. On Friday December 23' one must light the candles only before sunset and not afterwards. On Saturday December 24th. one must only light the candles one hour after sunset and not before. Please make the extra effort and the light the Chanukah candles this year. You don't have to have an actual Menorah to fulfill this Mitzvah(requirement). You can use any candle or any type of oil you have in the house and still fulfill the Mitzvah of lighting Chanukah lights . If you don't have a Menorah or Chanukah candles and cannot buy a menorah or Chanukah candles locally, please email me and we will help you locate a menorah EFTA_R1_00489611 EFTA01995336 and candles in your area or send you some. Each and every Jew should light his or her own Menorah. Children are encouraged to light as well. The Blessings Before lighting the Chanukah candles, we thank G-d for giving us this special mitzvah, and for the incredible Chanukah miracles: Ba-ruch A-tah Ado-nai E-to-he-nu Me-lech ha-olam a-sher ki-de-sha-nu be- mitz-vo-tav ve-tzi-va-nu ner Chanukah. Ba-ruch A-tah Ado-nai E-10-hei-nu Me-lech ha-dam she-a-sa la-avo- te-nu ha-ya-mim ha-hem bi-z'man ha-zeh. [Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe, who has sanctified us with His commandments, and commanded us to kindle the Chanukah light. Blessed are You, Lord our God, King of the universe, who performed miracles for our forefathers in those days, at this time.] On the first night of Chanukah, Tuesday evening, December 20, 2011 (or the first time on Chanukah you perform this mitzvah), add the following blessing: Ba-reach A-tah Ado-nai E-lo-he-nu Me-lech ha-dam she-heche-ya-nu yi-ma-nu ve-higi-a-nu ha-zeh.
