To: From: Sent: Thur 4/7/2011 2:56:41 PM Subject: FW: Internship opportunities for the 2012 London Olympics!!! Syracuse Flver.pdf NBC Olympics Internship Application Form elect_ pelf Taylor Visoski S.I. Newhouse of Public Syracuse University B.S. Public Relations and From: - Feeley Sent: 8:37 AM To: Subject: nterns ip opportunities for the 2012 London Olympics!!! Communications, 2013 Textual Studies minors on behalf of Elizabeth A. WITH ATTACHMENTS! TO: Newhouse majors FROM: Professor Sharon Hollenback Newhouse 2 - 352 Interested in being an NBC intern for the Summer 2012 London Olympics? NBC is starting the process now. Newhouse has had student interns at several Games since Athens in 2004: Torino in 2006, Beijing in 2008, and Vancouver in 2010. What amazing experiences! This flyer from NBC describes specifics of their London Olympics Intern Program as well as an application to be submitted to Shelly Griffin, Newhouse 3 - 318 by Friday, March 11, 2011, at 5 p.m. You'll need to turn in TWO COPIES of everything (your application, resume, and cover letter.) I'm offering a presentation and Q & A session this Wednesday, March 2, from 5 to 6 p.m. in Newhouse2-273, the former Bartlett Room. NBC will go through all the paper work and select some students for individual interviews during the first week of April, probably Thursday and Friday, the 7th and 8th. NBC insists you must be a currently enrolled student during these London Olympics. So you cannot have graduated. If you're then a senior , you may participate in graduation ceremonies in May but you must plan to not complete your degree until August, 2012. Dean Rosanna Grassi will be at the Wednesday meeting to answer any questions you may have about that aspect. She has been helpful with this since we first sent students to Athens. Shelly Griffin will also be there with some valuable advice for you. She is experienced because she's ably overseen the applications process and the interviews for each of four Olympics. I've talked with many of you already but this experience will be both exhausting (12+ hours a day) and exhilarating. You'll travel, live, eat, and work with other NBC employees. I'll discuss costs on Wednesday. Since you have to be receiving credit as a student to qualify, interns will enroll with SU Abroad for EFTA_R1_00555565 EFTA02039954 one internship credit hour, which I'll oversee. That process will be completed soon after the Games. NBC will pay SU for your one-hour internship credit. This is a major financial commitment, I know, but the opportunity to be a part of this complex and prestigious world event is phenomenal. I have worked with many internship experiences over the years and I'm especially impressed with what NBC offers and how professionally students are treated. In all, it's a truly marvelous active learning experience. I've had the privilege of overseeing the 110 interns (not all from SU, of course) at three Olympics so I'll answer whatever questions you have before your applications are due for London 2012 on Friday, March 11. Best of luck. APPLICATION NOTE: For security reasons, the application was designed so that your information will not be saved. Please type your information into the application, print it, sign it and bring to Suite 318, Newhouse 3 by March 11th. Remember TWO copies of the application, resume and cover letter are required for submission. EFTA_R1_00555566 EFTA02039955
