Subject: The South School read-a-thon is starting!
Join the PTC and the Literacy Specialists at South in
celebrating reading with the:
2013 Go Blue! Read-a-thon
kicking off this Friday, March 22nd!
Our goal is to motivate our children to read, keep them reading and
reward them for reading with fun prizes. We have made this Read-a-thon

easy and fun and we are hoping that everyone will participate to make it
a huge success for our school and children. Look for your complete Read-
a-thon packet coming home in backpacks on Friday, March 22nd.
The Read-a-thon starts on Monday, March 25th and ends two weeks
later on Sunday, April 7th. Each student is encouraged to set a daily
reading goal and track minutes read on the provided tally sheet.
Additionally, we encourage students to find sponsors to pledge money
toward their reading goals. A sponsor pledge sheet is included in your
packet and should be returned with pledges no later than Friday, April
12th. 100% of the collected money will go to the South School PTC to
fund performing arts assemblies, author visits and other student-adored
enrichment programs. Rewards for reading shall be:
• Every student that reads halfway to their goal will receive a
special prize!
• New Kindle Readers for our overall top reader and top fundraiser!
• $50 gift certificate at Elm Street Books for the two runner ups!
• $25 gift certificates at New Canaan Toy Store for the top reader
and top fundraiser by grade!
• Plus, all participating readers and their families are invited to a
celebration performance by comedian, Danny Magic on Thursday,
April 25th @ 6:30 pm - Saxe Auditorium. Prizes will be awarded at
this event.
With enough student participation in the Read-a-thon, Ms. Rocco and Mr.
Kascak have agreed to TURN THEIR HAIR BLUE for Friday, April 5th
"Spirit Day"!! So, grab a book and get reading!
